Blog Glossary
Here's a useful glossary on my field of study. Accounting is a complicated thing for those who don't know anything about it and this glossary will help creating a base.

- noun
- The systematic and comprehensive recording of financial transactions pertaining to a business.
- Example: Selection of the form of business organization for a project is an important step in project development and depends on a variety of business, legal, accounting, tax and regulatory factors.

- accounting software
- noun
- Accounting software is a computer program that assists bookkeepers and accountants in recording and reporting a firm's financial transactions.
- Example: He has been involved in designing accounting software, so there will be no dependence on outside accountants.

- accounting technician
- noun
- Accounting technicians maintain systematic records of business transactions and verify and record those transactions.

- bookkeeping
- noun
- The activity or occupation of keeping records of the financial affairs of a business.
- Example: In India, mathematics existed, but it failed to develop both modern arithmetic and book-keeping.

- budget
- noun
- An estimate, often itemized, of expected income and expense for a given period in the future.
- Example: Other forms of support can include books; however these can often be expensive and may not be an option for those on a budget.

- charts of account
- noun
- A chart of accounts (COA) is an index of all the financial accounts in the general ledger of a company.

- credit
- noun
- The ability of a customer to obtain goods or services before payment, based on the trust that payment will be made in the future.
- Example: Some people may never carry money around only carry a very small amount as they usually use credit debit card as a form of payment and some people may be carrying a lot of money around as they need to make a particular payment with it.

- creditor
- noun
- A person or company to whom money is owed.
- Example: The war had turned the UK into a major debtor rather than creditor, and the sale of assets during World War 1 greatly reduced the UK's international investments and therefore London's pre-eminence as a financial centre relative to New York and Paris.

- customer
- noun
- A person or organization that buys goods or services from a store or business.
- Example: It is likely they would have treated richer men more favourably as in Aristophanes' Wealth, Chremylus remarks 'that in Corinth the tarts there, when a customer comes in who's poor, they just ignore him, but a rich man gets instant admission.

- debt
- noun
- Something, typically money, that is owed or due.
- Example: All these causes use feminist theory to understand gender-based violence thus support feminism; however the website does not acknowledge its debt to feminism.

- discount
- noun
- A deduction from the usual cost of something, typically given for prompt or advance payment or to a special category of buyers.
- Example: The 30% discount will reduce the price of yarn to £14.70.

- entrepreneur
- noun
- An entrepreneur is an individual who creates a new business.
- Example: The roles that I feel carry the most importance to me are that of a monitor, disseminator, leader, entrepreneur, resource allocator and negotiator.

- general journal
- noun
- A book of original entry that requires that both the account being debited and the account being credited be listed along with the respective amounts.

- interest
- noun
- Money paid regularly at a particular rate for the use of money lent, or for delaying the repayment of a debt.
- Example: In PCD Maltron's case this is bad news; as the company is not very well established the security they can offer is quite low and so the interest charged on the loan would probably not justify taking the loan out.

- journal entry adjustment
- noun
- An adjusting journal entry is an entry in a company's general ledger that occurs at the end of an accounting period to record any unrecognized income or expenses for the period.

- license
- noun
- A permit from an authority to own or use something, do a particular thing, or carry on a trade.
- Example: The alcohol license runs until 12 midnight.

- noun
- The gain after all the expenses are subtracted from the total amount received.
- Example: It is an expensive process and consumers worry that biotech companies just want to make a profit and are not interested in consumer welfare.

- stock market
- noun
- A stock exchange.
- Example: On October 29 1929 the Wall Street stock market crashed in the United States, which resulted in an immense worldwide economic crisis.

- value
- noun
- Estimate the monetary worth of (something).
- Example: The amount of yarn to be produced if extra 700 hours use of vats comes into being remains the same at its current value.

- wage
- noun
- A fixed regular payment, typically paid on a daily or weekly basis, made by an employer to an employee, especially to a manual or unskilled worker.
- Example: The joint effects of these changes made the hourly wage increase by 138%.
